Most people are unaware of the stringent standards and work that is involved in producing therapeutic grade oil. All the hard work, time, travel, testing, distilling, building projects to make sure we are getting all the constituents that is in our oils.

Did you know how often Gary travels around the world in a year?  Last year he traveled around 78 times. Why that many times?

Young Living is the world leader in Essential oils.  Others will try to follow in Gary's footsteps but they will never fill his boots. No other company has the knowledge of starting from seed to growing, harvesting, distilling, formulating, teaching and educating.  This is the legacy of Young Living.
What other company do you know about that the President goes into the jungle in search of medicinal plants?  Who travels around the world in search for the purest oil?   Egypt, Africa, Madagascar, Omen, Jordan, Yemen, island of Socotra, China, Turkey, and etc.  Is the light coming on?

Gary travels because he is making sure we have the purest, highest potency essential oils, and seeing that they are distilled right.  For instance ylang ylang has to be distilled a certain way which is very different then the other oils.

Ylang Ylang is grown in Madagascar and now it is growing in Ecuador.  When Gary went to check on the was rejected he traveled to find out why.  And what he found was that they were not cleaning the Ylang Ylang he found that their distiller need to be updated to get the best and he taught them what to do to upgrade the distiller. The chemistry of the oil can be changed if it’s not distilled right.   When a batch of vetiver roots well enough so he had to show them what to do. Young Living also verifies that the plant is the right plant not just a look alike.   When Gary can't make the trip himself, YL sends out agents to make sure we are getting the best.

One of the presentations at Convention was Panet of  Essential Oil Experts that gave us a wonderful discussion on the importance of receiving pure therapeutic grade essential.

The panelists consisted of:
Kurt Schnaubelt, an internationally renowned figure in aromatherapy.  His work includes an extensive history of lecturing worldwide, numerous professional publications and consulting for government organizations.
Dr. Peter Minke, PhD,RMT earned a PhD in Cell Biology and a BS in Molecular and Cell Biology from Texas A&M University. He is also the Research Coordinator at the Young Life Research Clinic.
Primrose Wilson career in the essential oils industry spans some 50 years.  She is highly regarded supplier to flavor, fragrance, pharmaceutical and aromatherapy industries.

D. Gary Young President and Founder of Young Living

Primrose said that perfume grade oils and lower grade oils always start out with pure oil but then they adjust them to make them cost efficient.  Gary showed us that they will take 10% cinnamon bark and 2% cassia and call it pure cinnamon bark oil.  One way cinnamon is “adjusted” is to use the cinnamon leaf and cassia to make it look and taste like cinnamon bark and sell it as cinnamon bark.  Clove bud costs more than the stem which is cheaper and the clove leaf even cheaper yet.  So what do you think the other purchasers buy?  It is easy to sell the low grade oil to people because they don't know and they like the cheap part.

Perfumeries don't want to pay $30 per kilo so they pay $10 per kilo.  Lavender is export 2-3 times more than they can produce.  There is only 15 tons of fine lavender produced but 250 tons is exported.  Ever wonder how they can get that much when there is only 15 tons available?  It’s the wonders of chemistry!  For instance they mix up fine lavender which comes from China not from France then add lavendin and more chemicals to make the GC's look good. Reconstructed lavender linalool structure molecules can look like its natural.  They take 50% lavender and 50% lavendin than they ask the distillery to add artificial chemicals to bring up the constituents and call that pure lavender.  Here is a letter Young Living received from a supplier:

Dear Sirs,
I’m a French exporter who exports products from Provence (South of France) to North America.  I select very typical products which quality is unquestionable.  I would like to know if you could be interested by Provencal products like lavender essential oil made in France?
(50% lavender & 50% lavendin) 100% Pure

I hope to hear from you soon.

This is what is being sold on the market!

Some peoples experiences with cheap Lavender:

1.     One lady's daughter had pretty good sunburn.  The mother put lavender on her because she heard it was soothing for burns and it intensified the burns to 3rd degree.  Well guess what, she sued Young Living.  When the truth came out she had bought it from a health food store.  It was not Young Living's.  Needless to say she lost the case.

2.     Yesterday a co-worker got mixed up with a large grinder here at work.  It peeled the hide off three of his fingers; one finger nail was ground clear through.  I called Delene (my wife) and had her bring the lavender over.  He wasn't sure he wanted to put it on because it might burn.  I told him that if anything it would take the burn out of the burn.  We applied it and it really helped.  The pain was mostly gone and the stiffness went out of it.  I applied the lavender about once an hour and as he was going home offered the bottle.  His response was, that's ok, we have some at home.  I explained that the training I had, and we were warned about some of the "cheap" lavenders and what they did to burns.  He assured me that he had "good" stuff and left.

This morning as soon as he got here he looked me up.  Seems like his "lavender" isn't the good stuff.  He said that when he put it on it about set his hand on fire

He has to fly out to Washington State tomorrow and says he is going to stop at the farm on the way and get some "good" lavender.   Keith

3.     One woman who had heard of the ability of lavender oil to sooth burns used lavender oil from a local health food store when she spilled boiling water on her arm.  But the pain intensified and the burn worsened, so she later complained that lavender oil was worthless for soothing burns.

When her "lavender" oil was analyzed, it was found to be lavendin, a hybrid lavender that is chemically very different from pure Lavendula Angustifolia.  Lavendin contains high levels of camphor (12-18%) and can itself burn the skin which intensified her burn.  The Lavendula Angustifolia, contains virtually no camphor and has a burn soothing agent which is not found in lavendin.
I hope this helps to explain the importance in making sure of having pure therapeutic grade essential oil for your family because you could get a great reaction, one they you do not want.

Also 85% peppermint is made up of corn mint not true peppermint.  Perfumeries and flavoring companies were there long before Aromatherapy came along.  This is why it is so important to have knowledge so you can teach others.
Primrose said that they don't like to call it adulterated. Instead they call it “adjusted”.  When she goes and gets the oils for Gary she goes right to the source and makes sure it is the best at Young Living request and if it’s not the best, she WILL NOT buy it.  She will not look at the GC's and take their word for it. She said she needs to know how it is grown, distilled and etc. She said if other companies were like Young Living it would “bring aromatherapy forward”.

Dr. Minke said that a lady had used chamomile on her son and it burnt his skin.  Chamomile???? It’s very soothing.  She had bought $300 worth of oils from the health food store, and when Dr. Minke gave her Young Living oil she didn't use them again after she learned the difference from Dr. Minke.  In the health food store you can buy oil for the quarter of the cost of Young Living Therapeutic Grade oil (YLTG) --the wonders of chemistry.

Dr. Stewart said that he gave a naturopath some Valor and he said, I've already tried that and he got mad and told him to get out.  Dr. Stewart gave him the bottle anyway and left.  Later he called Dr. Stewart and said that he had put the Valor on a patient and left the room and came back to adjust him and he had already adjusted.  He signed up.Woman with Frankincense

I want to show you some of the areas Gary has traveled to make sure we have the best.  This is the frankincense trail which Gary is making a move which will be done for next year’s convention.  The documentation of the Frankincense trail has never been done.  A National Geographic photographer saw all of Gary's camels and asked how he got all those camels because he had been trying for 25 years and couldn't get them.  Gary had 30 camels, packs and saddles in three hours.  This will be one convention you will not want to miss.  These are just a few pictures Gary had taken on the Frankincense Trail.

This picture above, is of a beautiful lady carrying a baskets of frankincense resin.

This here is a picture of Gary looking at a frankincense tree.

Frankincense does not grow in Omen or Yemen.  Frankincense has not been exported from Omen for 75 years.  It grows in Ethiopia, Somalia, maybe in Sudan. Yeman is the frankincense capital.  All frankincense is imported from Somalia which is sent to Oman.  To harvest frankincense resin you cut the tree in a strip and sap runs out which looks like milk.  Fifteen days later come back and cut it again, fifteen days later for the third time cut it again and wait 30 days to get large crystals.

He is also working on building a distiller just for Frankincense.

Take a look at all the other work that goes into get the oils are available to us:

This is the Idaho Balsam fir harvest.  It is required to work in freezing below zero weather and blowing snow, besides all the lab work making sure the oils is of the highest quality.

Young Living is making discoveries that haven’t ever been done before.  For instance the ruta plant would grow up and look beautiful and then die.  Gary tried everything and it kept dying.  Finally one day as he was examining it he found that there was little white flies on the plant.  They would lay their eggs and the larva would go down and eat the roots which killed the plant.  So Gary made a formula up of Basil, Palo Santo, and Idaho Tansy and sprayed the plants and it killed the flies.  Now we have beautiful ruta plants in Ecuador.

Gary is always trying to find ways to cut the cost of operation.  He found that by putting a coil on the end of the boiler instead of the back which heats the water that it reduced cost by 40%.  So as you can see Gary is never still.Gary is writing two more books and one is on how to plant therapeutic plants.  A person has to know what to do for the plants and what they grow best in.  For instance Ocatea needs to grow in ash soil.  If to low in ash it will die.  We have 15 different crops on the farm in Ecuador now.  3 million starts of Palo Santo trees.

Gary has 30 years of studying under his belt to bring this information to you.  Has published 9 books, has four farms, four mass spectrometer, 5 Gas Chomatogram machines to test the oils.
